The first thing to do is to learn to play the game yourself. It may take a little time. Learning a new game usually does. Once you are comfortable playing the game with the Multiplier cards, find a child and play it with them. The Complete Guide booklet offers easier games to play for younger children. You'll also find an on-line link below on "How To Play". Initially it is important to forget about the science and focus on building a big team of Elementaur creatures.

Arrange the cards in order and look at the patterns as you compare each card with others in its row or column.

Then use the booklet to explore the science behind the game. There you will find tables that show you the parts of the cards and what science is involved.

WAYS THE ELEMENTAUR CARDS ARE BEING USED

In homes and schools to play many entertaining games without a word of science being taught.

As above but with a keen parent or teacher using the booklet to explain the science behind the cards and game.

In PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge) groups as a three to five hour programme or as part of a chemistry education programme spread over a term.

In primary classes (ideally Years Five to Seven) as a series of three to five lessons covering the science.

In primary classes as a mathematics game.

In high school classes to introduce students to the periodic table (Year 8), to teach basic equations (Year 9) and to teach periodic trends (Year 10).

In high school support groups to assist students who did not understand chemistry the first time around.

In primary and high schools as a reward activity for students who have finished their set work.

As a three hour programme on the school holidays. Kids have serious fun playing the Elementaurs Boot Camp card game, performing the Elementaur Rap, doing experiments, writing equations and making an electron bracelet. But most importantly, they gain an understanding of Chemistry and the Periodic Table of Elements that they will never forget.

As a 1 ½ hour programme at libraries where they play the game and explore a little of the science … or they just get together with other Elementaur fans and challenge each other to play.

They are being pinned up on notice boards at workplaces as employees figure out which Elementaur creature they most resemble.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

Teacher notes are available to help teachers plan a programme which suits their students, gives them the Blackline Masters for handouts used in lessons and has seven A4 full colour images of the cards to assist in teaching students about the cards.

We anticipate that we will be making further educational and entertaining resources associated with the Elementaurs available online very soon. We will post links to appropriate websites and give students a forum through which they can explore their science questions.
